Biography: Dr. Linda Wilson
Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Airedale General Hospital
Following medical school at Leeds University, I worked in Leeds and Bradford, initially completing training in General Practice. During this time I became interested in palliative care and subsequently trained to become a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. In 2002 I completed an MSc looking at the needs of palliative care patients in the area of sexuality. I worked as a Consultant in New Zealand and since 2003 at Airedale Hospital and Manorlands hospice in West Yorkshire. Following on from my experience of looking after a number of patients with long term neurological conditions, I have developed an interest in the palliative care needs of this group of individuals.
Abstract
I will present the philosophy of palliative care, explain the organisation of palliative care services and look at some of the issues especially relevant to people with MS. I will also address some of the issues around advance care planning.
