Biography: Julia Johnson

MCSP Grad.Dip. Phys, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Team Lead, Community MS Team, Newcastle upon Tyne

Julia has worked in neurological rehabilitation for over 20 years now. Much of this work has been with people with MS in a variety of settings like hospital, home and physiotherapy departments.

She first worked with the Community MS Team from 2000 to 2002, leaving to undertake a research project focusing on goal-setting in physiotherapy.

Julia was delighted to return to this successful and specialised community team as Team Lead in 2004. The team continues to strive to improve service provision for people with MS and their families.

Abstract

Exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle which can benefit everyone, including people with multiple sclerosis (MS). However MS affects you, appropriate activity can make a difference to managing and living with the condition.

In this talk, Julia Johnson, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and Emma Robinson, Senior Physiotherapist, will look at how you can find out about exercises and activities that meet your needs and abilities as a person living with MS.

They aim to provide you with some practical tips on how you can use activity to help stay as healthy and fit as possible and to improve some of your symptoms and their effects.
